Our groundbreaking dessert dumpling fuses rich chocolate and creamy black sesame together in a new and delightful fashion. Inspired by classic Chinese flavors, these indulgent bite-sized dumplings are a sweet and decadent treat.

How To Make

  • Heat Sauce: Bring 8 cups of water to a rolling boil and add the unopened sauce packet. Heat for 4 minutes and set aside, leaving the water in the pot.

  • Cook Noodles: In the same pot, add the noodles and cook for 6 minutes, swishing occasionally to prevent sticking. Drain and set aside.

  • Mix: In a large bowl, stir together the noodles and sauce, mixing thoroughly to combine. Top with fresh scallions and crushed peanuts (if using). Enjoying!

How to Make

  • In a large wok or pan, bring 2-3 inches of water to a rolling boil.

  • Place dumplings in lined steamer basket. Make sure to leave a 1 inch gap between dumplings.

  • Steam dumplings for 11 minutes (until internal temp. reaches 165°F). Remove from heat.

  • Rest dumplings for 1 minute with lid on. After 1 minute remove lid and rest for an additional minute. Serve with your favorite sauces!

Follow along as we whip these dessert dumplings up in 8 minutes

The Origin of Black Sesame

We set out to create a new kind of dumpling, inspired by the frequent use of black sesame in classic Chinese desserts like tang yuan and zhi ma hu. With the help of Chef Dominique’s boundless imagination, we landed on a black sesame lava filling, mixed with rich, sweet chocolate for good measure. The result? An innovative and indulgent dessert mixing authentic Chinese flavors with modern culinary influences.

Black sesame has a rich, nutty flavor, similar in some ways to peanut butter. We pair it with chocolate for sweetness—a match made in heaven!
WHAT IS A LAVA DUMPLING?
We named these dumplings in honor of the iconic dessert, molten chocolate lava cake (a chocolate cake with a liquid chocolate core). And we put our own twist on the filling by combining sweet chocolate and creamy black sesame!  
WHY BLACK SESAME AND CHOCOLATE?
Black sesame is often used in traditional Chinese desserts. We wanted to honor that classic flavor, while giving our first dessert dumpling a more innovative twist—in this case, the addition of chocolate, which pairs beautifully with black sesame. This unique filling was made by our friends at Pocket’s Chocolates
IS THIS A SOUP DUMPLING?
Technically, not quite, in the sense that traditional soup dumplings have a meat + gelatinized broth filling. Our first-ever dessert dumplings do share the same shape as their savory counterparts, steam up in a similar fashion, and boast a creamy liquid chocolate and black sesame filling—the perfect sweet ending to an all-dumpling dinner.

HOW DO YOU PREPARE THIS?
Steam in a lined bamboo steamer for 8 minutes, then allow to rest for 1 minute before serving as-is, or with a scoop of ice cream and freshly whipped cream.
