Ready in just minutes

Follow along as we whip these dessert dumplings up in 8 minutes

In a large wok or pan, bring 2-3 inches of water to a rolling boil.

Place dumplings in a lined steamer basket. Make sure to leave a 1 inch gap between dumplings.

Steam dumplings for 8 minutes. Remove from heat.

Rest dumplings for 1 minute with lid on. Serve as is or with a scoop of your favorite ice cream!

What does black sesame taste like?

Black sesame has a rich, nutty flavor, similar in some ways to peanut butter. We pair it with chocolate for sweetness—a match made in heaven!

What is a lava dumpling? 

We named these dumplings in honor of the iconic dessert, molten chocolate lava cake (a chocolate cake with a liquid chocolate core). And we put our own twist on the filling by combining sweet chocolate and creamy black sesame!  

Why black sesame and chocolate? 

Black sesame is often used in traditional Chinese desserts. We wanted to honor that classic flavor, while giving our first dessert dumpling a more innovative twist—in this case, the addition of chocolate, which pairs beautifully with black sesame.

Is this a soup dumpling?

Technically, not quite, in the sense that traditional soup dumplings have a meat + gelatinized broth filling. Our first-ever dessert dumplings do share the same shape as their savory counterparts, steam up in a similar fashion, and boast a creamy liquid chocolate and black sesame filling—the perfect sweet ending to an all-dumpling dinner. 

How do I eat it? 

Our Chocolate Black Sesame Lava Dumplings steam up in just 8 minutes, and can be enjoyed on their own or served with a scoop of ice cream for the ultimate indulgence.

Yes, our Chocolate Black Sesame Lava Dumplings are made with dairy-free oat milk chocolate from Pockets Chocolate.

To help bring our vision to life, we tapped the endlessly creative brain of renowned Pastry Chef Dominique Ansel (the creator of the Cronut®, among countless other award-winning desserts). We’re thrilled to collaborate for our first-ever dessert dumpling!

How do you prepare this?

Steam in a lined bamboo steamer for 8 minutes, then allow to rest for 1 minute before serving as-is, or with a scoop of ice cream and freshly whipped cream.
